Description:

The Grosse Pointe Public School System’s
Robotics Club – “
GP Gearheads
” – is searching for a
Coordinator beginning with the 2022-2023 school year. The Gearheads group includes students from
both North High School and South High School, and meets regularly throughout the year at North High
School’s machine shop.

Job Duties:

Organizes and oversees students involved in the club as they fundraise and promote the club,
plan and build the robot each year and attend competitions.

Responsible for completing applications required for First Robotics competitions and other fundraising forms, and managing grants and other fundraising efforts to support the club.
Attend regular meetings of the club.
Assure that students are properly trained on the various tools used in the machine shop.
Recruit and manage parent volunteers who assist students with planning and building the robot.
Coordinate field trips and competition trips, following school district guidelines.
Once specifications for robot are received in early January each year, oversee students and adult volunteers during the “build phase”, which involves 15-20 hours weekly after school and on weekends until robot is completed in mid to late February.
Coordinate purchasing of parts and supplies necessary to build the robot.
Manage logistics of transportation of the robot to competitions.

Select and attend weekend robotics competitions with students during the month of March.
Participate in various events in the community to build support for the program, promote the club and recruit future student members and adult volunteers.
During summer, meet with student once per month to prepare for the upcoming year and plan for various events.
Follow district guidelines when working with students, including keeping the Principals of both North High School and South High School informed of club activities and progress.

Qualifications:

Experience as a teacher, or other related experiences working with high-school age students in an advisory role.
Ability to manage both students and adults, and oversee club activities in order to meet various goals and deadlines.
Background in engineering or industrial arts a plus, but not required.
Must have strong communication, collaboration and organizational skills.
Ability to work effectively with students, parents, administrators, and community members.
Maintain high level of ethical behavior.

Working Conditions:

Available for 2022-23 school year. Time expectations involve attend weekly meetings throughout the
fall. From January – February, need to oversee students and adult volunteers who meet three week-day
evenings from 6 pm – 9 pm, and for several hours on Saturdays to build the robot. Attend competitions
that occur in March, which often begin on Thursday evenings, all-day Fridays and Saturdays. Ability to
attend occasional fundraising and community events at various times through the school year and
summer months.

Salary in accordance with the GPEA/MEA, EPED Salary Schedule for Club Class V – $4,750.
